Virtual Nationwide B+LNZ Ladies’ Muster

B+LNZ recognises the importance women place as critical farming partners in the sheep and beef sector. This day has been designed to help bring rural women from across the country virtually together.

With physical events like the Ladies' Long Lunches not being able to happen this year, we are excited to bring you two virtual gatherings over two different days.

There will also be a chance following the speaker sessions to make some new rural virtual connections with breakout room sessions. (Note it is optional to stay on and these breakout sessions will be additional to the one hour scheduled for the musters).

Each session will include:

  • Virtual goodie bags
  • Spot prizes
  • A chance to ask questions and engage with speakers
  • Dress up and win!
  • A chance to meet like-minded rural women with a breakout room session for 20-minutes following the speaking hour

About our speakers

1) Nadia Lim

It’s been an exciting ride for the former MasterChef New Zealand winner. When she was just 12 years old, she came up with the idea of ‘Nude Food’, and it has been her mantra ever since. Nadia moved to the family farm in Central Otago late last year. She has ten best-selling cookbooks, is one of the founders of My Food Bag - a genius recipe and meal kit delivery service - and is the proud mum of two sons Bodhi and River!

Hear her story and tips and tricks on how to enjoy simple, healthy, delicious food everyday at home.

2) Philippa Cameron

Philippa cooks for staff on the farm and shares her ideas and recipes through her instagram page @whats_for_smoko.

Philippa promotes positivity in the role that so many of us who marry into farming families find ourselves in. Her message is about being proud of our roles on farm as women. “We are not only the cooks; we are the conversation starters over a cup of coffee, we are the ones who bring everyone together on the hill or in the paddock for a well earnt sausage roll, we are the errand runners and the ear to listen.”

3) Kerry Harmer

Kerry Harmer and her husband Paul farm Castleridge Station in the Ashburton gorge and were concerned about the economic loss associated with lamb wastage, as well as the animal welfare implications.

Determined to address the issue, the couple have set up a lamb-rearing system – which includes automatic feeders – that minimises lamb losses and generates a profit of $50/head (including labour). Learn about their journey and tips and tricks she has for other lamb rearers out there.

4) Hannah Miller

At the age of 10, Hannah knew she wanted to work with food, and a few years on she is doing exactly that. Little did she know that moving to London and beginning her butchery apprenticeship would lead to a life focused on sustainability and zero-waste eating. Ten years and six continents later she is known as the lady of “A lady butcher”. 

Her passion is creating purposeful meats from New Zealand products and to create truly local charcuterie. Hear her inspiring journey and how starting a business was for her.
